September 2011:
2011-2012 SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

This new season brings many exciting oppertunities.The long awaited recording of Bach solo works will be released. Carla will perform the worldpremier of Stephen Mellilo's violin concerto as well the the Russian premier of Henriette Bosmans beautiful Concertpiece for violin and orchestra. 
She will also be acting as concertmaster with international acclaimed orchestra's such as the Rotterdam Philharmonic and the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra.


In october Carla will perform the
world premier of Pulitzer Prize Nominee Stephen Melillo's Violin Concerto with Kammerphilharmonie der Aa and conductor Joost Smeets.
In January Carla will go to Moscow where she will perform Dutch composer Henriette Bosman's Concertpiece for violin and orchestra as well as Tchaikovksy's Valse Scherzo with the Novaya Opera Orchestra.

Carla continues her exploration of the violin solo works of J.S. Bach and will play in concerts throughout Europe.

With Dutch pianist Daniel Kramer and Swiss pianist Reto Reichenbach, Carla has worked for many years and also this season the duo's can be heard both in the Netherlands and in Switzerland.

A new edition of the "Carla Leurs Prize" will take place in March 2012, where Carla will take place on the jury.




9 July 2011:

SCHEHEREZADE WITH LES SOLISTES EUROPÉENS

After two ver succesfull performances with the Sinfonieorchester Basel of Scheherezade this spring, Carla has been invited to lead the Solistes Européens, with Scheherezade. The open air concert will take place in Wiltz Luxemburg. The orchestra is being led by conductor Christoph König.




12-13 June 2011:
SOLOIST AT THE FIMU FESTIVAL IN BELFORT FRANCE

Together with the Britten Youth Orchestra, Carla will perform works by Bloch, Skoryk and Piazzolla at the FIMU Festival in Belfort, which attracts 80.000 visitors every year. Last year Carla also was a soloist with this orchestra during a concert for HM the Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.
Later this year she will record Nigun by Bloch together with the BJSO and conductor Loes Visser.



28 May 2011:
GUEST LEADING THE ROTTERDAM PHILHARMONIC

Carla was asked on very short notice to guest lead the Rotterdam Philharmonic with conductor Christoph Meier and sopranp Anna Caterina Antonacci. After this succesfuldebut as concertmaster, she has been asked to return during the 2011/2012 season.                                  



12 February 2011:
COMPLETE PARTITA'S BY BACH

Carla will play the complete Partita's by J.S. Bach at the Noorderkerkconcerten in Amsterdam. The concertseries is known for the regular appearance of Pieter Wispelwey and the complete Bach Suites for cello, as well for their performance of the Mattheus Passion.

6 November 2010:
SOLOIST WITH SINFONIEORCHESTER BASEL
DURING BALLET GALA FOR RICHARD WHERLOCK

Together with the Sinfonieorchester Basel, Theater Basel will present a gala abend with the Ballet Basel, celebrating Richard Wherlock, who has been Chief Choreographer with the Ballet Basel for the past 10 years. For this programm, Carla will be the soloist in works by Tchaikovksy (Swan Lake), Bizet (Carmen) and Saint-Saens (Violin Concerto nr.3). The Gala is sold out, however you can attend the Pathé-Küchlin Cinema, who will show this evening in a live broadcast. 


 



11 October 2010:
GUEST-LEADER LONDON PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA

October 11th, Carla will be leading the London Philharmonic during a performance at London's Royal Festival Hall. Osmo Vanska will be the conductor during a beautiful program of works by Lindberg, Mendelssohn and Walton.





1 September 2010: 
CONCERTMASTER SINFONIEORCHESTER BASEL

Carla has started working in Basel, Switzerland as the new concertmaster of the Sinfonieorchester Basel
Here she will be playing symphonies by Mahler, Shostakovich, Schubert and others with conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Nikolai Znaider and chief-conductor Dennis Russel Davies
Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherezade, known for its beautiful violin solo, will also be on the program. 
In november Carla can be heard in Danse Russe of Tchaikovksy and Saint-Saëns Violin Concerto with the orchestra when they play during the Gala Performance of the Ballett Basel, which will be broadcasted live in the Pathé Cinema in Basel.

 



23 April 2010:
CONCERT FOR THE QUEEN OF THE NETHERLANDS


Together with the Britten Youth Orchestra, Mrs. Leurs performed a concert for the Queen of the Netherlands. The press wrote:
"... The audience enjoyed a performance of the Britten Youth Orchestra, with a leading role for violinist Carla Leurs, who left a great impression, especially with her passioned performance of a tango of Piazzolla."



Februari 2010:
APPOINTMENT CONCERTMASTER SINFONIEORCHESTER BASEL


Mrs. Leurs has been appointed concertmaster of the "Sinfonieorchester Basel" and their chief conductor Dennis Russel Davies. Mrs. Leurs will join the orchestra starting september 2010.



July 2009:
Dutch writer Maarten 't Hart "tears in his eyes"

Together with the Monward Consort Carla performed works by Barber and Schubert.
After the concert, Dutch writer Maarten 't Hart wrote:

"... Ik wou je nog even laten weten dat ik gisteren diep onder de indruk was van je spel... in het tweede deel van Schubert kreeg ik tranen in m'n ogen bij je beeldschone triolen. Je bent een fenomeen...."

"... I just wanted to let you know that I was deeply impressed by your playing yesterday... in Schubert's second movement I could tears in my eyes with your beautiful triplets. You are a phenomenon..."





Februari 27th 2009:   
Together with the conductor Peter Selwyn and the Orchestra of the School of Music of Nürnberg, Carla Leurs played Paganini's first Violin Concerto to great acclaim.

Könner an der Flöte und an der Geige

Die Stars des Sinfonieabends in der Meistersingerhalle waren unzweifelhaft Jong-Hyun Choi und Carla Leurs. Der südkoreanische Flötist und die niederländische Violinistin begeisterten das Publikum...

...Wem der Auftritt des Asiaten bereits gefiel, der wurde von Carla Leurs überwältigt. Nur drei Jahre älter, erweckte sie doch bereits den Eindruck einer brillanten Musikerin, die sich auch optisch – im roten Abendkleid – vom traditionell schwarz gekleideten Orchester unterschied. Selbstsicher und virtuos übernahm sie den Violinenpart in Niccolò Paganinis Konzert D-Dur op. 6, und man merkte von Anfang an, dass hier jemand spielt, der zu seinem Instrument eine besondere Beziehung unterhält. Kein Wunder, handelt es sich doch um eine Geige aus dem Jahr 1808, hergestellt von Nicolas Lupot.

Mit dieser Violine kokettierte Carla Leurs geradezu. Sie entlockte ihr scheinbar mühelos die schwierigsten Töne. Ihr Spiel ist energisch, erlaubt sozusagen keine Widerrede. Bei alledem ein verzücktes Lächeln und kaum ein Blick in die Noten – wie Paganini seinerzeit selbst, trug auch Leurs die Soloparts auswendig vor. Hinter so viel Können steht eine Karriere, die mit sieben Jahren begann, als die junge Holländerin für ihre Königin spielte. Mittlerweile ist sie Preisträgerin vieler Wettbewerbe...

Works of Debussy and Messiaen
"... Superlatieven schieten te kort..."

Stevige kost dit programma, zou je denken, dus het zal wel rustig zijn. De kerkzaal zat dus hartstikke vol en meerdere malen kon je een speld horen vallen. De nieuw aangeschafte podiumverlichting en de stofversierde achterwand zorgen voor meer concertzaalsfeer dan ooit in de Morgenster! Het is zo’n optreden waar je de hele dag naar uitkijkt, vanwege de opwindende programmering.
Violiste Carla Leurs mocht vóór-applaus in ontvangst nemen vanwege haar kersverse benoeming tot 1e concertmeester van het London Philharmonic Orchestra en zij beloonde de zaal door in Debussy’s Sonate voor viool en piano (1916) wondermooi uit te pakken, waarbij zij haar bladmuziek amper nodig had. Fantastisch. Timora Rosler opende de avond met Debussy’s Sonate voor cello en piano uit 1915, waarin zij een warme, donkerbruine klank paart aan een zekere zakelijkheid, die na de pauze –in Messiaen- zeer goed van pas komt. Ook klarinettiste Céleste Zewald houdt zich ingetogen in Debussy’s Première Rapsodie voor klarinet en piano uit 1910 en spaart waarschijnlijk haar krachten voor Messiaen, waar ze monumentaal op dreef is, zonder ook maar even op drift te raken. Het Kwartet voor het einde der tijden is al bijna zeventig jaar oud en werd geschreven en op krakkemikkig instrumentarium uitgevoerd in een 1941-werkkamp in de buurt van Dresden.
In de beperking toont zich de meester en wat Messiaen schreef voor de combinatie van viool, cello, klarinet en piano, hoort tot de mooiste kamermuziek van de 20ste eeuw. 
Superlatieven schieten te kort om de verrichtingen van dit viertal, solo en in vereniging in Messiaen te beschrijven, waarin met name de pppp-passages die Céleste Zewald aan haar klarinet ontlokt, je de haren overeind doen staan. In de Danse de la Fureur (VI, dans van de woede) raakt de violiste haar contactlens kwijt en duikt achter de coulissen om een bril te zoeken. Een idiote onderbreking, maar deze muziek kan het hebben. Imposant is het alerte pianospel van Daniël Kramer, ingetogen waar hij moet begeleiden en overweldigend wanneer hij er tegenaan kan.

Nurnberg, 18 November 2008:
Carla Leurs wins the Solisten Wettbewerb at the Musikhochschule Nurnberg.

During the audition she played Paganini 1st Violin Concerto. As a result she will be performing this concerto with orchestra 27th of Februari in Nürnberg, Germany.

Istanbul, 29 October 2008:
Carla Leurs wins Second Prize and Bosphurus University Prize during the first Nuri Iyicil Competition.


Moldavian Ilian Garnet was awarded first place at stanbul's Cemal Reit Rey (CRR) Concert Hall. A shared third place was awarded to Kyung-Jin Han from South Korea and Alexandra Conunova from Moldova.

The prizewinners performed a program consisting of violin concertos by Sibelius and Tchaikovsky, accompanied by the Istanbul Art Orchestra, all under the baton of maestro Serdar Yalçn.

Istanbul, 26 October 2008:
Carla Leurs named finalist in Nuri Iyicil Competition.

After two rounds consisting of works by Bach, Paganini, Mozart, Tarçan, and recital works, 6 violinist will compete in the final round at the Cemal Reit Rey Concert Hall in Istanbul. 

The finalist are in performing order:
Kinneret Sieradzky - Israël
Eleonore Darmon - France
Alexandra Conunova - Moldova
Kyung-Jin Han - South Korea
Carla Leurs -  Netherlands
Ilian Garnet - Moldova 
They will perform concertos by Brahms, Sibelius and Tchaikovsky.


September 2008:



In a return performance with the Temple Symphony, Carla performed Paganini's first violin concerto to great acclaim. She already performed twice before with the orchestra in violin concertos of Tchaikovsky and Bruch.
